The Kagawa Museum

About Us

With the Seto Inland Sea to the north and Mt.Yashima to the east, The Kagawa Museum is located in a scenic beauty spot with rich cultural and historical environment. The museum is also adjacent to transport terminals such as JR Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu Port, as well as tourist attaractions and public facilities including Tamamo Park(Takamatsu Castle Ruins) and Kagawa Citizen's Hall.

This museum is a general museum with the function of both a history museum and an art museum. It is a focal point for Kagawa's culture with a wide array of activities through exhibition, propagation, investigative research, and other events. In addition, as annexes to the museum, there are Kagawa Prefectural Cultural Hall(PDF:22,107KB) for various cultural events, and Seto Inland Sea Folk History(PDF:6,297KB) Museum with full of information about the folk customs around the Seto Inland Sea.

History Of The Museum

  • April 1966 Kagawa Prefectural Cultural Hall is founded
  • November 1973 Seto Inland Sea Folk History Museum is established
  • November 1999 Kagawa History Museum is established
  • April 2008 The three institutions are consolidated together with Kagawa Museum as the main building and annexed by the other two

9:00 - 17:00 (last entry by 16:30)

*Occasionally open until 19:30 on Friday during special exhibitions (last entry by 19:00)

Closed

Mondays and year-end holidays (December 27 - January 1)

When Monday is a national holiday, the museum is open on that Monday and closed the following Tuesday

High school students and younger free
  • Special exhibitions require a separate admission fee
  • The special exhibition fee is also valid for collection exhibitions
  • Persons with disability or aged over 65 are admitted free of charge (with proof of age)
